Adopt a Chair at the Library

Update 10/1/2018:

To our Friends and Supporters,

Thanks to you, we have just finished our adopt a chair campaign that started July 5.

Scores of you responded with your donations to repair and reupholster the reader chairs at the El Cerrito library. You responded so well that there are no more chairs to endow!

The hundreds of readers who use these chairs each week thank you for the clean and comfortable feeling of the chairs. Several of our patrons have commented about how much brighter the Library looks now and how much fresher the chairs are.

While there are no more chairs to adopt we remain committed to making the current El Cerrito Library as functional and user-friendly as possible.

And, we are continuing to work, with your support, on the project to get a much needed new and larger library for all of us to enjoy.

We will be getting back to you later this year with ideas on both of these topics.

Sincerely,

Al Miller & Board Members of the El Cerrito Library Foundation

You could fund an endowed Chair at Cal. or Stanford for about Five Million Dollars.

You could fund a musician’s Chair in the San Francisco Symphony for about Three Million Dollars.

Most importantly, you can fund a Chair at our El Cerrito Library for only Two-Hundred Fifty Dollars!

The El Cerrito Library Foundation is offering donors, who want to fund the refurbishing of one of our sturdy, but tired, library chairs the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do so for the very reasonable donation of $250. We recognize that under even the most optimistic timetable it will probably be 8 to 10 years before the City of El Cerrito is able to open a new library.

In the meanwhile, the reader chairs in our Library have been loved to death. The frames are sturdy and in good condition. Sadly, the fabric is dirty and tattered and the springs and padding are beaten down after decades of heavy use by thousands of Library users. This creates an opportunity.

AdoptAChair

Anyone who wants to fund a new life for one of these chairs can have their name(s), or that of a friend or loved one, placed on a tasteful plaque announcing:

“THIS CHAIR ENDOWED BY YOUR NAME

Or, if you prefer, your contribution can be in honor or memory of someone.

Until a new library is built, thousands of users will be thankful for your contribution. When our new library is a reality, we will try to take as many of the existing chairs as are still in good condition to the new library.

Please see below on how to adopt one of these chairs. If you have in the past made a donation to the El Cerrito Library Foundation, you will receive a letter from the Foundation in your P.O mailbox by July 10, 2018 with a form & envelope with which you can use to adopt a chair. If you have not received it by this date, please contact the Foundation
