Books for Little Free Libraries!

While the El Cerrito Library Foundation works for a new library for El Cerrito, it also partners with the Friends of the El Cerrito Library to support our current library. As a supportive partner, the Foundation is pleased to help publicize a new program the Friends have developed.

Supporters of the El Cerrito Library continue to donate books to the Friends. The Friends use these books to raise money to support programs and materials for the El Cerrito Library. They sell some of these books online through Amazon and at their annual Spring and Fall book sales. They take books that are not sold to the Reuse Center at the El Cerrito Recycling Center.

Among these unsold books are clean, hardcover and popular titles. The Friends’ Board considered, perhaps, the members of our community who have Little Free Libraries may be interested in these books. With that in mind, the Friends’ started a program:

On Saturdays, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, in the back of the library at 6510 Stockton Avenue, clean, hardcover books are available FREE to community members with Little Free Libraries. Please drop by and select some for your library. All Friends ask is that you provide your name and address so the Friends could evaluate the success of this program. (Note: Friends will be closed this Xmas and New Years.)

Grace MacNeill, 1924-2021

Grace was a much loved and well known research librarian in the Contra Costa County Library System and worked for 25 years at the El Cerrito Library. She was both a long time Board member of the Friends of El Cerrito Library and Chair before stepping down early this year. She was one of the founding Board members of the El Cerrito Library Foundation. She guided Friends’ annual book sales and, with help of dedicated volunteers (for whom she had strong affection), raised funds for programming, books, and more for the El Cerrito Library. She personally donated generously to both Friends and Foundations fund raising efforts.

We at both the Friends and the Foundation will miss her gentle presence and voice at the Library and Board meetings, and her strong advocacy for all libraries. Thank you and rest in peace, eternal Grace.
