National Voter Registration Day – September 22, 2020

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR VOTE-BY-MAIL VOTERS, SEE END OF POST.

National Voter RegistrationNational Voter Registration Day, held the fourth Tuesday of September every year, is a nonpartisan civic holiday celebrating our democracy. First observed in 2012, it has quickly gained momentum ever since. To date, nearly 3 million voters have been registered to vote on this holiday.

The El Cerrito Library Foundation has participated as a Community Partner since 2015 by staffing a Voter Registration table in the entrance area of the El Cerrito Library. Last year we were one of the over 4,000 Community and Corporate Partners participating in this nonpartisan event.

Because of the Covid-19 situation, our participation in 2020 will consist of a series of informative voter registration posts on our website and Facebook sites.

Our main sources of information will be the National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) website (NVRD) and the Contra Costa County Elections Division website (CCC Elections). We will provide information on important dates in the voter registration and November 3 election schedule, on the Contra Costa County procedures for Vote-by-Mail voting, and on other information relating to voting in the November 3 election.

Important dates in the November 3 Election Schedule:

  • Deadline for candidates to file for office: November 12, 2020
  • CCC Election division mailing of Vote-by-Mail ballots to voters: October 5, 2020
  • Last Day to Request Vote-by-Mail Ballot: October 27, 2020
  • Deadline for CCC Elections to receive Vote-by-Mail ballots: November 3, 2020
  • Election Day: November 3, 2020
  • Deadline for CCC to Certify Final Results: December 3, 2020

If you have any questions about this schedule, or other voting or voter registration questions, please contact the CCC Elections Division Voter Services by email with “Inquiry” as the subject line at voter.services@vote.cccounty.us. You can also Call (925) 335-7800.

NOTE FOR VOTE BY MAIL VOTERS: As of August 15th the US Post Master General has sent letters to 46 states and the District of Columbia that the USPS cannot guarantee delivery of Vote-by-Mail ballots, postmarked on or before November 3, by Election Day.

If you, like the majority of CCC voters, intend to vote by mail, mail your completed and signed ballots as soon as you can after receiving them, or consider dropping them off at your nearest polling place, or depositing them in the secure voting box on the parking lot side of the El Cerrito City Hall.

The NVRD holiday has been endorsed by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS), the National Association of State Election Directors (NASED), the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), and the National Association of Election Officials (The Election Center).
